The Japanese manufacturer Nissan certainly created quite a surprise at the last Detroit International Auto Show by unveiling one of the most impressive and technologically advanced SUV concepts we have ever seen.
It's the Nissan XMotion (pronounced Cross-Motion) and it could very well represent the future of sport utility vehicles that the automotive industry will one day offer. At the very least, it certainly represents the future of SUVs at Nissan and what we could see in the cockpits of the Japanese manufacturer's vehicles in the near future.
Screens that can be controlled with the eyes in the Nissan XMotion
The first thing you need to know about the Nissan Xmotion concept is that it features seven digital screens inside. There are three main screens in the center, two more screens at the ends of those center screens, and two more on the ceiling. Together, these screens show and integrate all of the XMotion's functions and controls.
What is interesting is that it is possible to control these different functions by using only the eyes or by using different gestures. The objective here is to simplify the interaction between the driver and the car, and also to improve safety.
In addition, the Nissan XMotion will be equipped with a virtual personal assistant in the form of a Japanese koi fish. After entering the XMotion using fingerprints, the assistant is activated. It can perform a variety of functions, including autonomous driving, in addition to being able to provide relevant information about the vehicle's surroundings.
For now, the Nissan XMotion is only a concept. Its styling, however, could end up on a future Nissan SUV one day since it's not far from production. We could see the next XTerra having these lines.
"With the Xmotion concept, we are exploring how seemingly disparate elements can gain strength and power when brought together," says Alfonso Albaisa, senior vice president of global design for Nissan Motor Company. The vehicle is inspired by the aesthetic and technical know-how passed down from one Japanese generation to the next. At the same time, it offers the modern utility that drivers will need in the impending era of autonomous and connected crossovers."
